Clients often move forward with buying or selling without telling you. Most of the time, it’s because they haven’t heard from you in a while. When that happens, someone else ends up getting the deal. Staying in touch doesn’t mean being salesy. It just means showing up often enough so they remember you when they’re ready to act.
The main goal is to stay top of mind. You just want people to think of you when they start thinking about real estate. One of the best ways to do this is through regular conversations. It’s ideal if the conversation touches on real estate goals or plans, but even a casual check-in can go a long way. If you want to be the go-to agent, here are the three things that would ensure you stay connected without being overbearing:
1. Automation. Automation can help you stay in touch with more people at once. Email campaigns are a good place to start. A monthly email is the minimum, but sending two or three emails a month is even better. These emails should offer value, such as a market update, recent sales, or useful tips like home maintenance or DIY advice.
2. Face-to-face event. It also helps to host events where you can interact face-to-face. These could be client appreciation events, seasonal gatherings, or casual invitations to pick up a small gift. Simple touches like a Thanksgiving pie giveaway or a movie event create opportunities to reconnect in person. If you don’t have the ability to host events, you can still stop by with a small item as a friendly gesture.
3. Social media. Posting consistently on both your personal and business pages helps people stay connected to what you’re doing. Go beyond just posting. Comment on their updates, send birthday messages, and engage with what they share. When you post your own wins or stories about helping clients, people will see your success without needing a phone call or email.
What matters most is maintaining consistent communication. Whether it’s by phone, text, email, or face to face, staying connected helps you stay top of mind.
